How Kitchen Spices can keep us healthy: Spice 7: Cumin

Spices make our food delicious. They are just not flavor enhancers. Infact, they are OUR kitchen pharmacy!

Spice of the Day: Cumin



Cumin has a distinctive flavor and aroma. It is a wonder herb used in everyday cooking.


Benefits:


•Digests existing toxins in the body and prevents digestive disorders from cropping up

•Seeds are particularly beneficial for diarrhea and vomiting


Recipe 1

Buttermilk: Good for digestion

  • Yogurt – 1 cup

  • Water – 2 cups

  • Ginger – peeled and grated 1/4 tsp

  • Coriander leaves – 2 tsp finely chopped

  • Curry leaves – 2-3 leaves

  • Roasted cumin seeds powder -1/2 tsp

  • Salt as per taste

Method


Blend yogurt and water in a mixie jar. Pour the blended content into glass cup and add finely grated ginger, coriander fresh leaves, curry leaves, roasted cumin powder and salt. Enjoy the buttermilk during lunchtime.


Recipe 2

Cumin Water:


  • 2 cups water

  • 1 tsp jeera

Boil the ingredients and switch of the stove till it reduces to half. Strain the water and drink cumin water warm.

You can have cumin water at any time of the day but if you are looking for weight loss, drink it early in the morning on empty stomach.
